The ruins of ancient Lissos lie some 3 km west of Sougia and about 2 hours walk from our pension. It used to be an important site in Hellenistic and Roman times featuring a hydrotherapy centre with an Asclepion (a healing temple in ancient Greek) dedicated to Asclepius. You can spend a day in this antique town exploring the tiny temple, the ancient theatre and the vaulted tombs.

The famous gorge of Agia Irini starts from the homonymous village and ends at Sougia after about a 3-hour hiking.
